FXA Sports follows the USA Ultimate rulebook except as amended as follows:
A rectangular shape with end zones at each end. Our field will be 120 yards by 40 yards, with end zones 25 yards deep.
To Begin the Game: Game will start with a disc flip, visitor calls, winner chooses whether to pull or receive / loser gets the remaining choice
Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective end zone line. The defense throws (“pulls”) the disc to the offense. A regulation game has seven players per team. Scoring: Each time the offense completes a pass in the defense’s end zone, the offense scores a point. Play is initiated after each score.
Movement of the Disc
The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc (“thrower”) has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower (“marker”) counts out the stall count.
Change of Possession
When a pass in not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defense immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offense.
Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury time out.
No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made, or a travel is called by the “marker.”
When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.
One point for each successful score. The game is played until a score of 12 is reached or whenever the game time ends. If the time runs out during a point, play will continue until the point is over.
Spirit of the Game
Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of the game.
FXA endorses the principles of good sportsmanship. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. Unsportsmanlike conduct can include the following: Fighting, pushing, verbal/physical abuse directed toward an official or opponent, profanity/obscene gestures, flagrant/violent fouls, taunting/trash talking/baiting, cheating, throwing/abusing equipment and physical intimidation. A player may be ejected from a game (or a team may be evicted from the field of play) for engaging in Unsportsmanlike Conduct. An official may call a forfeit for unsportsmanlike conduct at any time, including after the game clock has expired. The League has the authority to suspend and/or expel a player or team from the league and/or future game(s) at its discretion with no refund of monies for such acts. These guidelines apply to players and spectators.
Weather Cancellation Policy
Games may be cancelled due to existing weather conditions, dangerous or unplayable field conditions, facility constraints, etc. FXA staff makes every effort to play all scheduled games, thus we will not cancel games until absolutely necessary.
If the games are cancelled, FXA will update the game status immediately, and all rostered players will receive a notification. If we do cancel, follow next week’s schedule unless otherwise notified, (i.e. If June 20th games are cancelled, teams should follow the June 27th schedule for their next game). The games that are cancelled will be made up towards the end of the season if time allows.
In extreme circumstances, FXA reserves the right to run a shortened season without a refund. FXA will make every attempt to get all regular season games played, however for every two (2) game cancellations due to weather, the season may be shortened one (1) regular season game. FXA also reserves the right to schedule games on days other than your regularly scheduled league day/night if necessary
If your team needs to forfeit a game (for whatever reason), please make sure to let us know 6 hours before game time by email ([email protected]) or call/text (703-382-9111).
If you don’t have at least 7 players, the game will be forfeited. If a game is forfeited within 6 hours of game time, a $50 fee will be charged.
